SCHOOL VOLUNTEERING IN KILIMANJARO- TANZANIA
Education is very important in any society to ensure that there are changes for an individual and society as a whole. The development of a country depends on the education that its people have. The foundation of education is important to be built especially for young children.
Schools here in Kilimanjaro -Tanzania are completely different from Western and European schools in their teaching style, which can be a challenge for a Volunteer for the first time when he has arrived in the area of learning and teaching.
The volunteer area has a house to live in where the volunteer can walk or use transportation such as a bicycle or motorbike. This area gives you the opportunity to be part of the community for a while. When you are here.This a wonderful opportunity to boost children’s chances of staying in education for longer and improving their overall wellbeing and future prospects.
The typical working hours at the placements are 8:30am-1:30pm Monday-Friday.
The following are areas that a volunteer can help while in the volunteer area.
Creative drawing: – Drawing simple drawings from books or by design that are used to make it easier for children to learn. Using different colors to make different shapes, numbers and words.
Teaching children basic English:-
Language is very important in communicating and used to gain knowledge for children. English is a language that is spoken by a large number of people in the world. Volunteers will have the opportunity to teach children, pronunciation, writing, reading and being able to listen to different languages. Considering the large number of people in Tanzania speak the Swahili language.
Organize games and arts: such as physical activities like baseball and soccer, or board games such as chess and Monopoly, or card games, or electronic games (like apps), or video games.
Share your love and care with children: Children perceive love as unconditional acceptance. They need to feel valued for who they are, regardless of their behavior or achievements. Every one need to be loved which may bring positive impact to individual.
Emotional Support: Love is also about being there for a child during difficult times, providing comfort, encouragement, and understanding.This includes ensuring their basic needs are met, providing a safe and loving environment, and fostering their learning and development through play and interaction.
Helping in sports and games:- You can get involved with extracurricular activities in the afternoons, like art and sports. These classes are a wonderful opportunity for the children to embrace their creative sides, and teachers will definitely appreciate the extra help. The program gives volunteers a wonderful opportunity to associate with children from different backgrounds and ethnic.
Childcare centers and kindergartens in low-income areas of Kilimanjaro are often lively places, and many families rely on them for support while they go to work for the day. Volunteers can ease the workload of local staff and help them provide better quality care for preschoolers.
You are welcome to bring along books, pencils, basic first aid supplies and musical instruments to help entertain the children and assist with activities. These supplies can generally be purchased in Tanzania, which also helps to support the local economy.
Why should I pay to volunteer?
A lot of people are initially surprised when they realize they have to pay to volunteer. However, the cost of volunteering includes accommodation, food, transport and in-country support staff – basically everything you need to support you while you give your time and energy to a worthy service project. When you consider the costs you might incur at a hotel or eating at restaurants, the costs are minimal.
