7 Day Kenya Safari to Mara, Lake Nakuru & Amboseli

From Nairobi, this seven-day safari takes guests to Kenya’s premier wildlife reserves on an epic East African safari.

Journey through the spectacularly scenic Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru, a bird lover’s paradise. Search for the Big 5 in Masai Mara and marvel at the bi-annual migration if you happen to be there in season. From Masai Mara, the tour moves on to Amboseli Game Reserve, lying in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro on the Kenya/Tanzania border.

Day by Day Plan

Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya

Guests are met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and guided to their safari vehicle for the short hop to the four-star hotel in Nairobi, where guests spend their first night.

Please note that there is an optional upgrade to a five-star hotel at an additional cost.

The rest of the day is spent at leisure.

Day 2: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya

After breakfast and checkout, our guide briefs guests on our East African Safari plans for the next six days.

Then it’s time to hit the road heading for Lake Nakuru National Park by way of the Great Rift Valley and its breathtaking scenery.

On arrival at the Lake Nakuru National Park, lying on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, we drive through the park to our lodge, on the lookout for our first wildlife sightings.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

After breakfast, we leave Lake Nakuru behind and travel through the Great Rift Valley, passing rural areas en-route to the world-famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.

As we enter Masai territory, look out for majestic Masai warriors in bright red robes, tending their livestock along the road.

On arrival, after settling in we enjoy lunch before embarking on a thrilling wildlife viewing afternoon game drive in this exciting reserve, home to the Big and the Small Five – the elephant shrew, the Buffalo-weaver, Leopard tortoise, Antlion and Rhinobeetle – the Big Five being easier to spot than the Small 5.

Day 4: Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

Our time here is spent on wildlife viewing game drives in this amazing reserve.

The Mara Game Reserve covers 1510km² of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodlands, following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers in southwest Kenya.

One glimpse is enough to explain its appeal; it is the quintessential open African savannah, hosting a mass of wildlife.

Day 5: Masai Mara Game Reserve to Nairobi, Kenya

We take a final wildlife viewing game drive this morning and after returning to our lodge for an early lunch we set off for Nairobi. Along the way, we stop at Masai Manyatta to meet the local Masai and enjoy a cultural experience (own expense).

At the Manyatta (homestead) there are 48 traditional houses surrounding a cattle enclosure. Guests are met by their Masai hosts and learn about their traditional way of life that has not changed for centuries. There is also a bustling curio market for some retail therapy.

Day 6: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park, Kenya

After breakfast we continue our East African Safari as we drive south towards the Kenyan/Tanzanian border and Amboseli National Park, lying in the foothills of distant Kilimanjaro.

Amboseli is known for big skies, swampy springs and dry and dusty plains trampled by thousands of animals.

Day 7: Amboseli National Park to Nairobi, Kenya

On our final day, there is time for one more wildlife viewing drive after breakfast or a visit to Masai Manyatta (own expense) to meet with the Masai and enjoy some shopping at the curio market.

Then after lunch at the lodge, we return to Nairobi for our onward journey as this 7 Day Kenya Safari to Mara, Lake Nakuru & Amboseli comes to an end.
